Rainy days don’t have to be as dreary as it looks outside. Get creative when the weather keeps you and your family from heading outside with these activities for rainy days.

  1. Movie Day (or Night): what’s better than curling up with your kids and a new movie? Grab a mound of blankets, buy all of your favorite snacks, and settle in for the movie. Turn your family room into your personal theatre by covering the windows with blankets and setting in with a movie the entire family will love.
  2. Family Game Day: if you can’t all agree on a movie to watch, try a game day. With this option, everyone can choose their favorite game, and you can take turns playing each one. No one can resist a great game of Monopoly or Candyland, and if you want to go the extra mile, create small ribbons to give to the winner of each game.
  3. Create Your Own Scavenger Hunt: there’s no better way to get your kids thinking that creating your own scavenger hunt. Write up clues to get them into every room in your home, and have them find specific objects. When they’re done, have a special prize to each of them to let them know they’ve won!

  4. Cook Together: get your children interested in cooking and food by picking out a new recipe that everyone wants to try. Include your kids as much as you can by promoting them to “assistant chefs” and assigning them specific duties that the recipe calls for. Not only will this make them feel important and useful, but it teaches them about cooking and makes them proud that they helped you make something.
  5. Read a Good Book: grab a blanket and each child’s favorite book and have story time together. If you’re looking to make this a normal thing, try starting a kid friendly series such as Harry Potter or Chronicles of Narnia so you don’t run out of material to read to them.
